6mile

6 Mile peak is down in the Swan, and is a spectacular hike above treeline. Meet at the church at 7 am for a ride down to the trailhead. Afterwards all of us are invited over to Zane’s for an early dinner.

08backpack group

This is a 7 day trip in the NE Bob Marshall Wilderness led by Athelas Outdoor Ministries—a professional guide service. Pastor Greg DeMuth is a two time graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School, was a senior instructor in two Outward Bound wilderness programs, and was a licensed recreational guide in the state of Maine.  We’re doing a 38 mile loop that starts and ends at Swift Reservoir. The cost is $210, and generous financial aid is available. We need a $50 deposit to save your spot—make payable to “Athelas Outdoor Ministries”. Backpacks, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags are available to borrow at no cost.

This is more than a backpacking trip. It is an opportunity to step out of your daily life and experience spiritual renewal as you work and live in Christian community. This will change your life! You can expect to be challenged and to discover new things about yourself and others. You will work together as a team and discover deeper friendships. There will be opportunities for fishing, exploring, talking and listening to God, and looking at the beauty of creation every day. Backpacks weigh 45 lbs—but get lighter every day as we eat our food. [YES!] On our 4th day we’ll take a day off for resting, fishing and exploring. This trip is suitable for beginners and “never-evers”.

One last thought about what this trip is not. This is NOT a survival trip where we hike from dawn until dusk. Anyone in average condition can do this—and no one gets left behind. Most days the group will help out one or two people by taking some of the weight off their packs. So don’t worry…you’ll have a 100% chance of success!

This is a conversation between a person and the Lord. Take a few minutes and think about the truth of the words, and let them lead you into prayer…

This is where I want you to be. You ask that I deliver you. Then do not be uneasy about it; do not teach Me, and do not teach yourself; surrender yourself to Me. I am competent to be your Master. I will lead you in a way that is pleasing to Me. You think it wrong if things do not go as you feel they should. But your thinking harms you and hinders Me. Things must go, not according to your understanding but above your understanding. Submerge yourself in a lack of understanding, and I will give you My understanding. Lack of understanding is real understanding; not knowing where you are going is really knowing where you are going. My understanding makes you without understanding. Thus Abraham went out from his homeland and did not know where he was going (Gen. 12:1 ff.). He yielded to My knowledge and abandoned his own knowledge; and by the right way he reached the right goal. Behold, that is the way of the cross. You cannot find it, but I must lead you like a blind man. Therefore not you, not a man, not a creature, but I, through My Spirit and the Word, will teach you the way you must go. You must not follow the work which you choose, not the suffering which you devise, but that which comes to you against your choice, thoughts, and desires. There I call; there you must be a pupil.
