High School Home Groups
September 15, 2008
Starting on October 1, 7-8:30 pm [and meeting every first Wednesday of the school year] are home groups that will be split up by either interest area or grade level. God Parent Groups are a way for you to connect with other cool adults (besides pastor Greg!) who have kids in our highschool program. Each group will be a little different. For example, our seniors and freshman will be doing the Truth Project study. Pastor Greg will be doing an outdoor interest group for sophmores and juniors. Judy will be doing a group for sophomore & junior girls. Most of the groups will meet in homes. That means good treats to eat! YUMMERS. Your host will call you with info on where to meet.
Sign up will start on Wed September 17th at the youth kick-off.
Chosen and Choosing
September 5, 2008
The greatest joy in life is being chosen by Jesus. The second greatest joy is being completely free to love him back. This year our theme is Chosen and Choosing. When we begin to understand the amazing love that stands behind this fact, it changes our lives. You’re invited to come and explore where Jesus will lead us. This life is not far away, it’s in your hearts. It’s been prepared for you and now given to you through faith.
His wounded hands were stretched out on a cross as he chose you. He chose you because of the joy that he knew was coming for both him and us. Let’s grab these beautiful hands and see where he takes us this year.
Canoe Trip Sat Sept 20th
September 1, 2008
Our welcome back event for this year is a canoe trip on the Whitefish River on Saturday September 20th-followed by a riverside BBQ. The event is open to all 7th-12th graders. As always, please bring $2 to help cover the cost of food. [Hey, its a deal at twice the cost!!] You can bring your own kayak or canoe. HOWEVER…you must also bring a life jacket and wear it. If you don’t have one, borrow one: you can’t get on the river without one. This would also be a great time to ask your parents to complete our activity release form posted on line.
If you have extra boats we could borrow please let us know. RSVP to Karen at 257-TLSM. See you on the river!
Meet at 10 am in the Home Depot parking lot at 93 and reserve.
Welcome Back
September 1, 2008
Welcome back everyone! We are ready for the 2008-09 Trinity Lutheran Student Ministries programs to begin…
The Formal kick-off will be Wednesday September 17th, 6-8:30 at the Youth Center. This will be our public opening, and we’ll have some members of the media on hand. Our new sound system will be up and running, and we hope that a student led praise team will lead us in worship. After a message and worship activity we’ll enjoy burgers and dogs from the grill.
New stuff this year:
High school…We’ll continue with Wednesday meetings every week. Some cool changes include God Parent groups on the first Wed of the month. You guys will split up by grade level or by interest and be hosted by parents who have kids in the program. For example, we might have a basketball group. On that night, the group and its sponsors will meet, have a devotion, and play. Groups are limited to about 12, and sign-up will happen at the youth kick-off on Sept 17. Your God parent sponsors will be there to encourage you in your walk with God and have fun with you.
Jr High…On the first Wednesday of the month you guys will have Jr. High night night from 5-7 pm after confirmation: starting Wed Oct 1. Seventh graders can go to the Youth Center right after school for drop in time. An adult volunteer will meet you after school in the church lobby to escort you over. Everyone else will arrive at about 5 pm for pizza and soft drinks. Please bring $2 for food. If interest is high, we’ll add a second night each month.
5th and 6th grade…On the second Tuesday of the month you guys will have Terrific Tuesdays from 3:30-5 pm at the Youth Center: starting Tuesday Sept 9th. An adult volunteer will meet you in the church lobby after school and escort you over to the Youth Center. Bring $2 for pizza and soft drinks. We hope that this is more convenient for our families than the Saturday morning program.
Our theme for this year is:
Because we are chosen, we have the power of choice renewed inside of us. Loving the Lord involves a daily choice to find him in his word and in the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism. Our prayer is that all of us would grow deeper in our faith-walk with Jesus. Get ready to be challenged. Get ready to be majorly blessed!
